In the eighth century, Guru Padmasambhava--the Lotus Born--came to Tibet from India and became known as Guru Rinpoche, the Precious Teacher. He transmitted many esoteric teachings to his disciples and concealed them as
Ter (gTer) or
Terma (gTer ma)--hidden Dharma treasures--for the sake of future disciples. From the eleventh century until today, thousands of volumes of those concealed teachings have been discovered by the reincarnations of his chief disciples through their spiritual discernment. This volume contains eleven texts, most of which are prayers to Guru Rinpoche that were taught and concealed by him as
Ter. Others appear as prayers composed by great Lamas, but some of them could still be considered
Ter regarding the process of their revelation.
There are three kinds of texts in this volume: a) those for realizing the profound wisdom state of mind through the force of devotion and of meditating on it, b) a liturgy of performing a feast offering ceremony, and c) prayers of supplication for the compassionate blessings of Guru Rinpoche.
