Essential Pith Instructions of the Accomplishment Practice of Yamantaka

Literally "Slayer of the Lord of Death," Yamantaka is considered a wrathful emanation of Manjushri, the buddha of wisdom and knowledge. This practice is considered extremely powerful for clearing obstacles to both spiritual practice and long life. For centuries, Gargon Monastery has performed this practice to welcome the Tibetan New Year. Garchen Rinpoche says that "when you are meditating on loving-kindness and compassion for all, then you have no ego-clinging. Without ego-clinging, nothing can harm you. So through Yamantaka we meditate on compassion for all sentient beings and nothing--curses, sorcery or whatever--can harm us. If you understand this then you understand all there is to know about Yamantaka retreat practice."
