Om Mani Padme Hung Chant (CD 15)

Here at the Garchen Buddhist institute, we conduct a yearly Drupchen of the practice and mantra of Chenrezig. By constantly chanting the mantra, 24 hours a day, for many days at a time, practitioners aquire a vast amount of merit, which is then dedicated towards the enlightenment of all beings. Chenrezig is renowned as the embodiment of the compassion of all the Buddhas. He is known by many different names: as Avalokiteshvara in the Sanskrit language of India, as Kuan-yin in China, as Kannon in Japan. It is said that all the teachings of the Buddha are contained in this mantra. This, and all other mantras, are said to be a sound manifestation coming from emptiness. This mantra carries with it the power of Chenrezig's mind, who himself is instilled with the blessings and compassion of all the Buddhas and bodhisattvas. Due to this, the mantra itself is endowed with the ability to purify our mind's obscurations.
