Garchen Prescott Sangha

Program of Activities 2009-2010, with Lopön Barbara Du Bois, Ph.D. & Friends

The Garchen Prescott Sangha is a community of good heart, based in the Prescott, Arizona mountains and desert, and welcoming friends from near and far. We study and practice Dharma on the cushion, in the chair, on our feet; together and in solitude; in our living rooms and at the Garchen Institute; with our families, friends and co-workers; at the delightful Tibet Gallery in downtown Prescott; in the food court at the mall; silently and in dialogue. We regularly offer volunteer service to the Garchen Institute. Our purpose is to expand love and compassion for all, to generate bodhicitta, to practice for awakening in this and all our lives, and to engage in bodhisattva conduct of body, speech and mind for the benefit of all beings.

H.E. Garchen Rinpoche and Lopön Barbara Du Bois are our principal teachers. This year we are enthusiastically expanding our Dharma activities, creating a dynamic, nourishing program of study, practice and community life. We warmly invite you to join us in our Dharma events. Your kind donations support local Dharma activities.

Under the guidance of our precious teacher, who will be busy writing this summer, we (Sue, Helaine, Laurie K., and I) will be offering a bevy of Dharma delights for your enjoyment. In keeping with summer they will be light and infrequent. Our intention is to continue to provide practice support for ourselves and each other and to stay in contact during the summer. Below is a description of the summer sangha activities.

Monthly Meditation at the Tibet Gallery -- we will continue to host community meditation the first Wednesday of the month during the summer (June 2; July 7; August 4; September 1) from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Book Study Group -- the book study group will be held at Laurie Katon's home (see below for directions) from 10:30 until noon on the following Saturday mornings:

The book for our summer enjoyment is Enlightened Courage by Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. Ten copies will be available at the Tibet Gallery. When they are available we will send out an email. The book is also available at the Garchen Institute and online through Amazon and other retailers.

If you are interested in attending the book study please contact Kim at (928) 775-5391
